Sassy Affirmations

We hear so many people talk about affirmations or incantations as Tony Robbins calls them.  What are they?  How do they work?  An affirmation is a positive statement that helps you overcome negative self-talk or limiting beliefs. Some people think affirmations are just “wishful thinking” but in reality, they are powerful, repetitive mental tools that will strengthen your self-esteem and beliefs.  We do repetitive exercises with our body.  Why not our mind??

Affirmations are used in areas of your life you would like to see improvement or change.  For many, that is physically (lose weight, eat healthy, exercise, etc.)  It also could be money, relationships, love, healing, really anything that needs improvement.

Many times, we have limiting or negative beliefs about areas of our lives we are not even aware of.  Money for instance: “money doesn’t grow on trees.” “I can’t afford that.”  You get the picture here.  Affirmations help correct those negative beliefs and turn them into positive, powerful beliefs.

Here is my favorite setting to speak my affirmations (which I do daily.)

  1. Take a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling to a count of 10.

  2. Stand in front of a mirror and look yourself in the eyes.

  3. Say each affirmation slowly and with conviction. Say it as many times as you feel necessary.

  4. Visualize as you are speaking the affirmation.  (If you have a vision board, look at it.)

  5. Truly believe what you are speaking.

So many times, you hear people say, “I will believe it when I see it.”  When in reality it should be “I will see it when I believe it.”

It is important to do your affirmations as early in the day as possible.  I find it truly sets the tone for the day.  I personally practice them as I am doing my daily gratitude.  Be sure and devote enough time to actually visualize each affirmation.

When will you practice your affirmations?  Where will your sacred spot be to keep your list?
